Addictions

I treat addiction frequently in my practice and have to say it’s one of the most rewarding aspects of my work. Whether the addiction is to drugs, alcohol, shopping, gambling or sex, I work with it.

The basis of all addiction work is dealing with the underlying, unresolved emotional conflicts from the past. Most people are using their addiction as a way to tranquilise unresolved emotional content. It is often easier to do that than to look at the thing that really upsets us.

I don’t believe anyone chooses to use something addictively, to make them feel better, if they have a better choice available. It is the quick fix and the high of the substance or stimulus that quells the uncomfortable feelings for a while. When the feelings come flooding back, they need more and more of ‘X’ and so the vicious circle begins.

With EFT there is help available and the person can use the tapping whenever they need to. EFT has provided the ‘missing piece’ to the addiction treatment programmes that are currently available and can be highly successful if the person really wants to make the change.
